The vine is a plant related to all the planets and thus to all factors of the etheric and the environment (as governed by the four Elements). Due to some of its spiritual aspects the vine is linked to the forces of the ego – thus wine is used to symbolize the blood of Christ. The most characteristic part of the plant is the node, or rather the branch-node-bud complex.
Due to its metameric characteristics the vine is a plant mainly connected to the Moon which is, therefore, its main point of reference.
On the other hand, the spiraling tendrils show its link with the forces of Mercury.
Along the node regions on the one side a bud-leaf grow together with the new shoot, while the tendril grows from the opposite side. The node, even if it in the air, has the ability to send out roots. So any part of the plant can grow from the node of the vine.
